Winter Colloquium 2022

From February 4 to February 11, 2019, the winter colloquium of the Chair of Computer Science 11 took place. The scientific staff presented and discussed their current research results in Kleinwalsertal, Austria. Furthermore, we discussed strategies for teaching and improvements of the internal information management. A creative break could be taken in a sportive way on the ski slopes or while hiking. Due to the currently ongoing pandemic, the colloquium was held in compliance with a strict hygiene concept. Not the entire staff was able to come to the Söllerhaus for the same reason. Nevertheless, all participants agreed that the meetings and the exchange on site were a great success and an important contribution to the normalization of the chair life.

SFB/TRR 339: Digital Twin of the Road System and Collaborative Sensor Data Fusion

The Chair of Computer Science 11 is part of the new Collaborative Research Center / Transregio (SFB/TRR) 339 of the German Research Foundation (DFG). The Collaborative Research Project investigates the “Road of the Future” and is named: »Digital Twin of the Road System - Physical-Informational Representation of Future Road System«.

Research groups from TU Dresden and RWTH Aachen University are researching in a collaboration of civil engineering, computer science and mechanical engineering. The goal of the research area is the creation and exploration of a digital twin of the road system and thus laying the foundation for the analysis and optimization of the future road system. The main focus of this research is the intelligent, gentle and sustainable use of the road infrastructure.

Our task as the Chair of Embedded Software is primarily a sensor data fusion that combines data from different sources. We particularly focus on the inclusion of data from a sensitive road surface layer.

The proposal was submitted by Prof. Kowalewski (chair holder) and Dr. Alrifaee (head of the Cyber-Physical Mobility Group). At the chair the research assistant Mr. Schäfer (member of the Cyber-Physical Mobility Group) is working on the project.

PV1000 at 150 Years RWTH - The Exhibition

As part of the university's anniversary celebrations for “150 Years RWTH Aachen”, an exhibition is being held at the Centre Charlemagne. Among other things, the PV1000 pandemic respirator, which was co-developed at the Chair Informatik 11, will be exhibited as an initiative from RWTH. Ten prototypes of the PV1000 are currently being built for further testing during development.
