Dr. Bassam Alrifaee is a Senior Researcher and a Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science at RWTH Aachen University (RWTH), Germany. He is the founding director of the Cyber-Physical Mobility (CPM) group and the CPM Lab at RWTH. He is currently a visiting scholar with Professor Andreas Malikopoulos’ Information and Decision Science (IDS) lab at the University of Delaware, USA. He received his Diploma degree in Computer Science from the Technical University of Ilmenau, Germany, and his Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering from RWTH in 2010 and 2017, respectively. His research interests in the field of cyber-physical mobility systems include (i) distributed model predictive control, (ii) service-oriented architectures for control systems, and (iii) applications of (i) and (ii) to CAVs. He is the recipient of the starting grant for early-career researchers of the German Research Foundation (DFG) Research Training Group 1856: Integrated Energy Supply Modules for On-Road Electromobility. Dr. Alrifaee is the recipient of several DFG research grants, including a project in the Priority Program 1835: Cooperatively Interacting Automobiles, a project in the Collaborative Research Centre Transregio 339: Digital Twin of the Road System, and an individual research grant. He is a PI of a project funded by the German Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport and a CO-PI of two projects funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. He was the PI of two projects funded by industrial partners. He is the recipient of a teaching grant from the Exploratory Teaching Space of RWTH. Dr. Alrifaee is currently an Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Vehicles.
